Artist, Muralist and Illustrator, Barbara Benson

Barbara Benson lives in Northeastern Utah, a land of high desert areas, beautiful mountains, and where there are many farms and ranches. She enjoys going out and painting “plein aire” to capture the beauty and interesting areas around her.

Barbara grew up in Roosevelt, Utah. She attended the University of Utah, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art.

She is a versatile artist, able to work in several different mediums and subjects. She has done commissioned work for private individuals, businesses and the community. She has displayed her paintings in juried art shows and has won several awards.

Outstanding Achievments

Barbara was recently part of a four-man show, “Windows on the World” at the Western Heritage Museum and Gallery in Vernal, Utah. She also has paintings in the Southam Gallery in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Along with her “movable” paintings, Barbara has painted many murals in private homes, businesses and the community. One of her recent projects was a whimsical mural for the Duchesne County Library’s Children’s Reading Room.

Barbara has illustrated several children’s books and has several in the works. She has also illustrated other books and publications.

Barbara’s artist statement puts her perspective on being an artist into these words:

“Why am I an artist? It wasn’t something I chose. It chose me. I was born this way. Ever since I can remember, I have had to put pencil to paper, then brush to canvas. It gives great satisfaction to transform a blank surface into an image that can delight and uplift a viewer by imparting a sense of calm, peace and beauty. With our physical eyes we can transport ourselves to a place and time where we can connect with our souls."
